The population is nearly double what it had been 20 years before. 1,875 are described as “free colored persons.” The Irish-Catholic population is estimated at 8,000, double that of 5 years before. The separate towns of Roxbury, Dorchester, Charlestown, and Brighton have an additional combined population of 19,076, with 136 classified as non-white.
